GlitchTip and Fehlo compared.

Fehlo runs the engine of GlitchTip, the open source software under the MIT licence. Here is how hosted GlitchTip and Fehlo differ, and when GlitchTip is the better choice.

Facts about GlitchTip as of 24 October 2026; sources are listed below. If you spot a mistake, write to hallo@fehlo.de and we will fix it.

The same engine, said plainly

Fehlo is built on GlitchTip, the open source software under the MIT licence.5 The engine that accepts, groups and stores events is GlitchTip 6.2.6, extended and fixed by us. So whatever the engine can do, GlitchTip can do too. If you like GlitchTip and want to run it yourself, do: according to its documentation it runs on 512 MB of RAM and PostgreSQL.4

This page answers a different question: if you want the hosted version, app.glitchtip.com or eu.glitchtip.com against app.fehlo.de, how do they differ?

Fehlo prices net, plus VAT; GlitchTip in US dollars. GlitchTip counts transactions, logs and uploads as events, so measuring performance or collecting logs there needs more events than at Fehlo.

What Fehlo added to the engine

We have built on and around the engine. Some of it is not in GlitchTip 6.2.6:

  • its own interface in German and English, with a command palette and keyboard shortcuts,
  • uptime: real ICMP ping, domain monitors over RDAP, alerts on slow responses, heartbeat grace periods, pauses for deploys,
  • status pages with 90-day history, scheduled maintenance, logo, custom domain and no Fehlo branding,
  • spans from JavaScript SDK 11, which GlitchTip 6.2.6 drops, and ProGuard, Windows PDB and Mach-O fixes backported from GlitchTip 7.0,
  • vulnerability scanning for your projects' packages and attack detection,
  • errors from Make and Zapier, a GitHub integration and per-role permissions for the MCP server,
  • alerts that repeat for open issues after 24 hours, and a scheduler that no longer stalls after a broker error.

GlitchTip keeps developing too; version 7.0 is announced. The list describes 6.2.6.

When GlitchTip fits better

  • You want to self-host, free and open source.
  • You need 90 days of retention; Fehlo keeps 30 days on every plan.
  • You have many users and little volume: GlitchTip Small has unlimited users for $15, Fehlo Solo has three.
  • You need a US instance or a HIPAA BAA; GlitchTip offers HIPAA hosting as an add-on to Large.1

When Fehlo fits better

  • You want a German company as your contract partner and your data with a German provider, with no US providers in the data path.
  • You measure performance or collect logs and don't want either to eat into your error quota.
  • You want uptime, status pages on your own domain and errors in one tool.
  • You're starting small: Fehlo Free has 5,000 events, GlitchTip 1,000.

Switching

Both speak the sentry SDK protocol. You change the DSN, and sentry-cli gets SENTRY_URL=https://app.fehlo.de/. Old issues don't move. The engine can import organisation, users, projects and teams from another GlitchTip instance; we have no screen for that yet, so write to us if you need it.

Questions

Is Fehlo a fork of GlitchTip?

Fehlo runs the GlitchTip 6.2.6 engine with its own extensions and fixes and its own interface. The licence is MIT; details under open source licences.

Why not just self-host GlitchTip?

If you want to run a server, that's a good choice. Fehlo is for teams who don't want to handle updates, backups and monitoring themselves and need a German contract partner.

Do my sentry SDKs work with both?

Yes. Both accept events from the sentry SDKs. You change the DSN.
